If you\u2019re a health practitioner dedicated to improving the health of others, you\u2019re probably thrilled when you receive a glowing patient review.<\/p>\n

But did you know publishing such a review on your professional website could land you in hot water?<\/p>\n

Why do you have to be careful with testimonials?<\/h2>\n

According to AHPRA \u2014 The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency \u2014 testimonials are considered to be a form of advertising and there are very strict rules around advertising.<\/p>\n

AHPRA has many roles. One of them is to protect the public by regulating Australia\u2019s registered health practitioners. They do this by setting standards and policies that all registered health practitioners must meet. Some of these policies include advertising. This legislation is known as the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, or more commonly as the \u2018National Law\u2019.<\/p>\n

Legislation around advertising has been developed to ensure consumers can make informed, accurate decisions about their health treatment. False, misleading and deceptive health claims \u2014 including testimonials \u2014 prevent consumers from doing this.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the problem with testimonials?<\/h2>\n

Quite simply, you\u2019re not allowed to use or publish testimonials that talk about the clinical aspects of a regulated health service.<\/p>\n
